Why warm white is the setting that matters, and how the light makes it

Everyone sells the colors, and the colors are genuinely fun: red and green in December, orange for Halloween, your team on game day. But the setting almost every homeowner actually lives with, three hundred-odd nights a year, is plain warm white. It is the everyday look, and it is the one worth getting right.

Here is the part nobody explains at the sales stage. A light with only red, green, and blue diodes has to fake white by firing all three at once, and the result skews cool and slightly blue, the tone you have seen on a house where the white setting looks more like a hospital hallway than candlelight. It is fine for a holiday burst of color and wrong for the everyday setting you leave on most of the year.

What we install uses RGBW: red, green, and blue for color, plus a fourth diode dedicated to warm white. So warm white is a real warm white, made by a real warm-white light rather than mixed from three that are not. Roofline, soffit, or eaves: where the track goes and what to call it

This product goes by half a dozen names, which is half the confusion. Permanent roofline lighting, soffit lighting, permanent Christmas lights, architectural lighting: they all describe the same thing, a slim aluminum track that mounts along the edge of your roof. If you searched any of those, you are in the right place.

The track runs where the roof meets the trim: under the eaves, along the fascia, up the gables and peaks. We finish it in a color matched to your soffit or fascia, so in daylight it reads as part of the house rather than a strip stuck onto it. Done right, you have to be told it is there.

Where it does not go is on the roof field or through your shingles. Everything fastens and seals to the fascia or soffit, which keeps every penetration off the roof surface itself.
