The one difference that actually changes your evenings
Most permanent lighting systems can do color. That is table stakes, and it is also the part people over-weight when shopping, because color is what looks impressive in a demo.
The question that matters more is what the system looks like on an ordinary Tuesday in March, because that is the other 340 nights of the year. Almost nobody leaves their house red and green year-round. They set it to warm white and leave it there.
That is why the white matters. When white is blended from red, green and blue, it lands cool and slightly clinical, which is fine for a holiday display and wrong for everyday curb appeal. A dedicated warm-white diode produces the incandescent tone people actually want on a house. Our permanent architectural lighting uses RGBW for exactly that reason, and it is the same reason we wrote the comparison against clip-on kits.
Questions people ask when comparing
Is Trimlight a bad system?
No, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. It is a professionally installed permanent lighting system with a published lifetime component warranty and a color-matched channel, and plenty of people are happy with it. The honest difference is narrower than most comparison pages claim, and it comes down mainly to how the two systems produce white light and who you deal with locally.
What is the actual difference in the white light?
Trimlight's own FAQ states that pure white is created by combining red, green and blue. Our system uses RGBW, where a fourth diode is dedicated to warm white and produces it directly. Whether that matters depends entirely on how you plan to use the system. If you want color a few nights a year, either will do it. Their warranty sounds better than yours. Is it?
On paper the published product warranty is longer, and we are not going to argue with their own document. What a warranty is worth in practice depends on who honors it and how fast.
